The Landlord - Claudio Allia, Italy (nominee 2011 category People - amatuer)
I discovered the site of the Photography Masters Cup Photoshow today, and I just have to share a tiny little bit of the photos on the site. This is, according to the information on the main Photography Masters Cup site, "the leading international award honoring color photography. This celebrated event shines a spotlight on the best professional and amateur photographers in a prestigious annual contest and globally webcast event."
I looked around at the photos from the 2011 cup for a while, but there is so much more to look at, and photographers to discover. I chose just a few nominees from the category People - professional and amateur - to show you today. There is more variety of styles than you might think when you see my choises, I chose kind of "everyday realism" photos.
Seleciton of 2011 nominees People - amateur:
Mario Ayala at his home 2 - Pablo Madanes, Argentina
Man with Tuna - Alex Capri, Hong Kong
Journey - Lev Tsmring, USA
Little Hunter - Chris Minihane, USA
Ana Hren - Dalibor Talajick, Croatia
I think the reason why I like these photos so much is that they are so infused with stories about the people and their environment. Stories that could easily become interesting documentaries, but one photo alone tells a lot...
Selection of 2011 nominees People - professional:
El buzo - Jesus Jaime Mota, Spain
Ballet Girls - David Scheinmann, UK
Kenya Family - Jesper Westley, Denmark
Actually, there was not at all that many great story-telling photos in the professional category as in the amateur category...
But one professional photo from the category People made it to my Daily dose of quirkiness. A story about the joy of playing dress up and the bond between a child and a pet...
Scarlett and Archie - Garry Owens Owens, UK
